Eastern Airlines DC-8-21, 1:400, Sky Jets 400 Limited Edition, 0068 of 1000. The airplane registration number (N8602) on this model, was the 36th DC-8 to roll off the production line at McDonald Douglas. The delivery date was January 2nd, 1960. It was retired on February 26th 1976, after a total of 40,497 hours flown. Eastern had fifteen DC-8-21's. In one of my books, there is actually a picture of her sister ship (N8601). Type certifications was granted January19,1960, 5 days later, Eastern became the first carrier to put the DC-8-21 into service on January 24,1960, between Idlewild (now JFK) New York and Miami. The new streamlined falcon logo was unveiled 4 years later in 1964, The falcon was updated and simplified, and redrawn on an oval background, In early 1965, Eastern introduced it's two-tone blue New Mark ("hockey stick") paint scheme for aircraft exteriors, that lasted until their 1991 shut down. A great model to add a bit of nostalgia of pre hockey stick, to an Eastern collection,
