Description
The first production L-1049 Constellation made it's maiden flight on July 14, 1951. The Constellation was Lockheed's response to the successful Douglas DC-6. The aircraft was also produced for both the United States Navy as the WV/R7V and the United States Air Force as the C-121, for transport, electronics, and airborne early warning and control aircraft. A total of 856 Constellations of various models were manufactured. There are, unfortunately, only a few airworthy Constellations left today.Eastern Airlines was a major United States airline founded in 1926, and provided passenger service until 1991. On April 30, 1961, Eastern inaugurated Eastern Airlines Shuttle. Eastern initially began this service using Lockheed L-1049 Constellation's leaving New York-LaGuardia every two hours to Washington National and to Boston. Eastern had 76 L-1049 Constellation's in service from 1951 to 1968.
This Eastern L-1049 Constellation was delivered to Eastern on November 09, 1956. It flew with Eastern until September of 1968 when it was sold to California Airmotive Corporation, where it was flown until it was eventually scrapped (How very, very sad).
This beautiful1:200 scale diecast reproduction of this famous aircraft is a highly detailed, out of production and difficult model to find model. The model has chrome wings and fuselage bottom. It is completely assembled and comes with a display stand. The model is new and only taken out of the box for photographing purposes to show the fine quality and detail. All sales are final. Shipping to the continental USA only.
NOTE: This is a one-of-a-kind, extremely rare and difficult model to find. I could not locate another one in an internet search. This model is new, but for some unknown reason, arrived without the front landing gear tires. They can be ordered from Herpa, but I will let he buyer investigate that. This is the only one available.
